Disable Password Prompting for a Web Application with Host Header on the local SharePoint 2010 Server

Written by Denis Stadler on . Posted in IT Pro & PowerShell

In order to recreate a SharePoint 2010 production environment, I created a Web Application with Host Header and an empty Site Collection on it .

But when I tried to connect to it form local IE Browser I received the same user & password prompting as in the MOSS 2007.

The fix is similar to the old one:

  • Click Start -> Run -> and type regedit.
  • Browse the following path: HKLM -> System -> CurrentControlSet -> Control -> Lsa
  • Create a new DWORD (32 bits) key and type DisableLoopbackCheck.
  • Double-click on it type 1 in the value box.

  • Restart the server.

Just one more thing: please do not apply this on a production server….
